Canterbury Secondary Schools Championships 2024

We finished with a perfect day of racing, warm and sunny! Thanks to everyone who helped, supported and took part in the SINGLETRACKS XC events for 2024.

Congratulations to the winners of the age grades, and well done to everyone that competed. For many riders it’s a new experience and quite challenging!

Oscar Talbot and Millie Junge took out the fastest male and female riders for 2024 – they’re fast!

Week 3 – 20th March 2024

Thanks everyone for a good afternoon of racing. With many riders away in Queenstown it did make for a relaxed afternoon, especially in the calm sunny conditions at the finish line.

Joel Gibbs from Rolleston was happy to get a t-shirt and bottle from Camelbak as he was picked out by an official as being an amazing supporter to team mates and other riders out on the course. The type of support given by spectators has a big effect on riders, positive and negative, so it’s nice to be able to recognise someone handing out the positive support!

Remember next week is an earlier start and it is in age grades so please check the race details beforehand! We do encourage everyone to bring some biscuits or something similar (and easy) for afternoon tea before prize giving.

Week 2 – 13th March 2024

Well done to everyone that raced yesterday. Perfect weather and a great bunch of riders and supporters meant we got through all of the races on time and without too many issues!
The results are linked below. There are some competitive fast riders where XC is their sport, and also a lot of riders doing it for fun and just getting out and riding with some friends and the school. There’s a lot of riders who excel on the downhill stretch so kudos to them for battling the climbs! Don’t stress too much about where you fit in the results, most importantly enjoy the riding. I saw some fantastic responses from riders at the end of the races congratulating the riders just in front or behind them. Clearly they enjoyed the little competition they had between themselves.
With a little magic next weeks grades will be worked out from these results, I wonder if AI could make sense of them?! I’ll have them on the website and Facebook by Sunday night before the races.
