GRADING GUIDELINES
Races on week 1-3 will be graded on speed so that riders are racing against those of similar ability.
The Canterbury Championships which is in week 4 will be competed in age group categories.
For the Canterbury Championships on the 22nd of March (week 4) the age of competition will be as of December 31st 2023 to keep in line with the Cycling NZ Schools age categories. The categories will be U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, and Open (17+). There will be one sport grade category with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
As this series uses lap races there will be 5 races (5 grades) on each race day to ensure there is less chance for a fast rider to catch a slower rider within the race distance. This minimises frustrations with passing, and being passed! It benefits you and other riders to be in the appropriate grade.
Every week we will have two categories of race. The top 3 or 4 grades will be ‘competitive’, which simply means they will race on more challenging courses. The ‘sport’ grade will race on the Core XC loop each week. This is less technical and lets them improve their times on a more comfortable track.
Grades for week 1 will come from self registration through your school and any other information available. After each week the grades will be altered where appropriate and the starting rank for each race will be determined by the previous results. If you have any questions about the grades, or you are able to provide relevant information for a grade placement, please make contact here. Contact
