Week 2 consists of a SINGLETRACKS XC race on C2, Crocodile, Deviation, and Lower Deviation. Five races will be run. E, D, C, B, and A grades.

REGISTRATION: From 3pm at the race base in the upper dog exercise area.

IMPORTANT: When you register, you will be asked to confirm whether you would like to race on courses using tracks from all of the time trials, or just the core XC Loop (TT1) for the remaining 3 races. ALL or XC? Please add this information or update what you wrote last week on the sheets at the registration table, either before your race, or after it. A number of people were unfamiliar with the tracks last week. There will be two categories of racing for weeks 3-5. Competitive (using any of the tracks from the time trials, aiming to challenge riders more) and Sport (using only the core XC loop from TT1 and focusing on improving your riding and times on the same, relatively non-technical course).

Any riders with these options in red on the grade list below need to consider what they have put down. A red ‘All’ probably means you did not do all of the time trials, especially upload / download. Do you want to race all of the tracks? A red ‘XC’ means you probably did all of the time trials and showed that you might be capable of riding all of the tracks!

GRADES: Grades are based on time trial results in week 1, mainly around the combined times for the grades that most people raced all the time trials, and mainly around TT1 where that was the main time trial completed. In some cases 2017 results or recent race results have been used.

SINGLETRACKS Week 2 Grade List is Here

It is in everyone’s best interest to be in the right grade to minimise passing or lapping. If you need to change your grade, for a good reason, please contact Murray. If you are trying to improve your grade, don’t give up if you get stuck on the first lap of a race … push hard on a lap time and point it out to me! Grades are not permanent so adjustments will be made after each race.

RACE BRIEFING AND STARTS: Riders must be ready for race briefing 10 minutes before the start of a race. The race briefing will be in the start area (Please note that this is a slight change from original plans). This area will be marked by two cones 10m below the start line which is marked by two cones and a start line on the ground. Riders will be briefed and then called to the start line from here based on the current ranking. Do not move out of this order as it is set up to minimise the need for passing. There will be a break of 30 secs between wave one and wave two within a race. The race starter will separate this and the timing will be adjusted to allow for the difference. After the start you will go straight up into the track that takes you on to C2. There is no loop on the grass at the start. On each loop the race will exit the trees over the cattle stop and do the start/finish loop before heading back into trees and C2.

WARMING UP: The SINGLETRACKS XC loop may be used for warming up before 3.15pm. The Upper Dog Exercise area where below the race base can be used for warming up. During this race you can access the blue tracks via the walking track above the main cattle stops. There will be a temporary access point through the fence. The second section of blue in the open valley is only accessible through the course marshal at the top of Crocpot. All other tracks are not available for warm up. See the Core XC Loop Map for details. There is to be no riding in any other areas of Halswell Quarry Park.

UNIFORM: Remember you are representing your school so you need to wear your school cycling tops and school (or plain) cycle shorts, or your school sports uniform. Sort it out now to be ready to race!

AFTER YOUR RACE: There is no prize giving after the races so you are free to head off, or support your team mates. RETURN YOUR RACE NUMBER to the registration table.

ACCESS AND PARKING: Off Kennedys Bush Road, in the main carpark of Halswell Quarry Park. Race base information is here

TOILETS: There is a public toilet block in Findlay’s Picnic Area and down in the main quarry car park. Please access these via the track to the car park if you are on a bike. Keep them tidy and clean … we want to be allowed to come back for other races!

RUBBISH: This is a public reserve and it is expected that you take any rubbish away with you. Please leave it tidy so that it can be used for future events.

RESULTS: Results will be posted on Facebook and the Singletracks Website later in the evening or the following day.
